MYS Concludes 2026 Intra-Governmental League with NLA and LPRC Crowned Champions
Paynesville, Liberia -The Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially brought the curtain down on the football and kickball editions of the 2026 Intra-Governmental League, with the National Lottery Authority (NLA) crowned football champions and the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) emerging as kickball champions following a thrilling display of athleticism, teamwork, resilience, and competitive spirit among government institutions.
In an energetic football final that went down to the wire, NLA held its nerve to defeat LPRC 5–4 on penalties after the two sides battled to a stalemate at the end of the regular time. With neither team able to find the decisive breakthrough during open play, the championship was settled from the penalty spot, where NLA demonstrated composure under pressure to secure the coveted title. The champions received LD$125,000, while LPRC pocketed LD$100,000 as runners-up.
The third-place playoff also produced a dramatic finish, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports defeating the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA) 4–2 on penalties after an entertaining 1–1 draw in regulation time. MYS secured LD$50,000 for its third-place finish.
In kickball, LPRC staged an impressive comeback in the championship showdown against the Liberia Maritime Authority (LMA), overcoming the deficit to win 8–6 in home runs and claim the kickball crown. The victory earned LPRC LD$100,000, while LMA received LD$60,000 as runners-up.
The kickball third-place encounter was equally competitive, as MYS overcame the Central Bank of Liberia 1–0 in a penalty shootout after the two sides played to an entertaining 4–4 draw in regulation time. MYS collected LD$45,000 for finishing third.
The tournament also celebrated outstanding individual performances, with players and coaches rewarded for their contributions throughout the competition. In kickball, Isadee Garlo of LPRC was named Highest Home Run scorer with 11 points, while teammate Marthaline Akoi earned Best Pitcher honors with 27 points. Flosta Abedu-Bentsi of LPRC was named Most Valuable Player with 42 points, while Anthony Jarba was recognized as Best Coach.
In football, Kelvin Allison of NLA was named Best Defender, Innocent Ozoemene of LPRC took home the Best Goalkeeper award, and James Clinton of NLA was crowned Most Valuable Player. NLA's Emmanuel Tarr was named Best Coach, while James Koko Lomel of LAA finished as the tournament's Top Goalscorer.
The conclusion of the 2026 Intra-Governmental League marks another successful chapter in the Ministry of Youth and Sports' efforts to harness the power of sports to promote teamwork, unity, camaraderie, healthy competition, employee wellness, and institutional cooperation.
Beyond the trophies, medals, and prize money, the tournament provided government employees with a platform to build relationships, showcase sporting talent, and strengthen collaboration across ministries and agencies.
