MYS Begins Distribution of Vacation Job Program Materials Ahead of Independence Day Cleanup Campaign.

Paynesville, Liberia – July 17, 2026 – The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) has commenced the distribution of materials for its Vacation Job Program across six counties, officially launching a nationwide cleanup and beautification campaign in preparation for Liberia's 179th Independence Day celebrations.

The program is being rolled out in Montserrado, Grand Bassa, Lofa, Bong, Nimba, and Margibi counties and is expected to engage approximately 1,500 students in coordinated community cleanup activities. Implemented in partnership with the Monrovia City Corporation (MCC), Paynesville City Corporation (PCC), and other municipal authorities, the initiative is designed to improve the appearance of public spaces while promoting civic responsibility among young people.

The campaign forms part of the Ministry's National Youth Pathway Program, which seeks to expand youth engagement through community service, skills development, and short-term employment opportunities. By involving students in meaningful public service during their school vacation, the initiative provides temporary income while encouraging active citizenship and environmental stewardship.

Through the distribution of essential cleanup materials, participating counties are now equipped to begin coordinated sanitation and beautification efforts aimed at giving communities a cleaner, healthier, and more welcoming environment ahead of the country's Independence Day festivities.

The Ministry expressed confidence that the initiative will not only contribute to a successful national celebration but also foster community pride, strengthen youth participation in national development, and provide students with a productive and rewarding vacation experience.
