MYS Convenes Stakeholders on Assessment of Forpoh and Trehnbo Vocational Institutions as TVET Reform Continues

Paynesville, Liberia, November 2, 2026: The Ministry of Youth and Sports held a stakeholder dialogue on October 30, 2026, at its headquarters to review assessment findings on the Forpoh Vocational Training Center (FVI) and the Trehnbo Vocational Institute (TVI), as part of ongoing reforms of the country's Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system.

Deputy Minister for TVET Hon. Laraamand S. Nyonton presided over the meeting. The meeting brought together MYS officials, representatives and board members of both institutions, stakeholders, and a representative of the District #2 lawmaker, Hon. Fonati Koffa.

In his welcome remarks, Deputy Minister Nyonton said the engagement stems from the rigorous reform under way across the MYS TVET ecosystem and the Ministry's broader vision to strengthen the system.
Alieu Lee Kemokai, Regional TVET Coordinator and head of the assessment delegation, presented the findings and recommendations for both institutions, along with the Ministry's decision.

During the open discussion, stakeholders raised concerns about how the process was handled, including the level of involvement of the institutions' boards and local leadership. They also asked for recognition of the sacrifices made in establishing the schools and sought clarity on the reasoning behind reapplication. Deputy Minister Nyonton responded by outlining the steps the Ministry has taken with school administrations, the county legislative caucus and local authorities.

Because lawmakers could not attend, the Ministry postponed the reviewing and signing of the joint resolution, the nomination of FVI and TVI board members, and formal endorsement remarks. These items will be taken up at a joint meeting between MYS, the Grand Kru County Legislative Caucus, and local county authorities, scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2026, at the Capitol Building.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to an inclusive, transparent process that strengthens vocational training and expands opportunities for Liberian youth.
