MYS Hosts Stakeholders’ Conference on Demographic Dividend The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) will on Monday, and Tuesday, November 7 and 8 host a two-day national demographic dividend stakeholders’ round table in Monrovia, with President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf expected to address the gathering. The aim of the round table is to develop a national road map for reaping demographic dividend in Liberia. The conference is expected to bring together about 150 representatives of youth and youth-led organizations, national and international agencies, institutions of higher learning, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to Liberia and other stakeholders from key sectors, including health, education, and governance. The meeting will also draw delegates from the Ministries of Labor, Finance and Development Planning, and Gender, Children and Social Protection. The theme of the round table is: “Our Youth Our Liberia – Harnessing the Demographic Dividend,” According to the African Development Bank, by 2030 one in four youth of the world will be an African. Of recent, this dynamic in population shift has been of serious interest and discussion at the highest level of Africa’s leadership, which led to the crafting of the African Union’s development agenda with the theme: “Demographic Dividend – Catalyst for Youth Mainstreaming towards Harnessing Economic Growth”. Youth and Sports Minister Saah Charles N’Tow says “This theme signifies that African leaders recognize the need to focus their attention on how the continent can increase investment in its young people to utilize their energies to lift the continent to another level.”
