MYS-UNDP DELICATES DIGITAL COMPUTER LAB FOR YOUTH

A research and digital training computer lab for Liberian Youth has been dedicated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and its partner UNDP. The Innovation -Lab was recently set up by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with support from UNDP to provide digital training for young people, do research works and connect with other young people in other parts of the world.

A research and digital training computer lab for Liberian Youth has been dedicated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and its partner UNDP.

The Innovation -Lab was recently set up by the Ministry of Youth and Sports with support from UNDP to provide digital training for young people, do research works and connect with other young people in other parts of the world.

The innovation –Lab is part of YouthConnekt-Liberia program intended to provide the platform for young people to get connected with peers around the world.

Speaking at the dedication ceremony recently, Youth and Sports Minister, D. Zeogar Wilson, said the issues of young people are cardinal to the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) developmental agenda.

Minister Wilson however urged the young people and students to utilize the facility and not allow it to be dormant.

“This Innovative –Lab should not be here for decoration. This facility should be utilized by you, because this is for you. You must use it wisely,” he stressed.

For his part, Cllr. Kanio Gbar-Gbala, UNDP representative at the dedication, said the UN agency stands in full support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in domesticating YouthConnekt program across the country.

He renewed UNDP’s commitment for its continued support towards youth development and empowerment in Liberia.

The innovation –Lab is situated at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Paynesville City, well equipped with computers and high speed internet connectivity. Young people will use the center to carry out research, online and digital training.

YouthConnekt is a flagship program of the Ministry of Youth and ICT-Rwanda, UNDP-Rwanda and One UN Rwanda. The program is designed to give young people the space to develop in almost every aspect of the society.  YouthConnekt-Liberia is model after the Rwanda success story. Its inception came as the result of the vision of UNDP regional office for Africa for the up scaling of Rwanda story across Africa. Africa committed UNDP country offices in Africa full support to YouthConnekt initiative on the continent. Liberia is one of the Five (5) countries that currently run a YouthConnekt program.
