MYS Adheres To FIFA Mandates

The Deputy Minister of Sports at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Honorable G. Andy Quamie has re-affirmed the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Liberian Government   unwavering commitment  to  fully  meet up with the implementation of bench marks set forth by the Federation of International Football Association( FIFA) in a bid to bring the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex to acceptable international standard.

According to Deputy Minister Quamie, the SKD Sports Complex was built in the 80s lacks   bucket seats to actually determined the exact seating capacity.  He  said the project which funding is expected to be provided by the Liberian Government is estimated at Five Hundred Thousand United States Dollars,(USD500,000.00) and will cover the provision and installation of thirty-five thousand bucket seats on the  stadium for sporting fans, gate  scrutiny machine,  the revamping of the dressing and  massage  rooms for both home and away players, and the establishment of  both media  tribute and media  Center  with modern State-of-the-Arts equipment.

The Deputy Minister of Sports emphasized that failure on the part of the Liberian Government to implement the mandates, Liberia will not be allowed to play any of its matches in  country, Liberia is expected to play her first match in October 2020.

Deputy Minister Quamie  was quick to disclose that Federation of International Football Association(FIFA) has approved to  build uniform  Sports Stadium in all  the 54 African Countries and the Ministry of Youth and Sports is lobbying for Liberia to be in the first batch of countries benefit from FIFA Stadium, I am hopeful   he said.

The experience Deputy Sports Minister, said that the project has come to a stand-still because of the outbreak of the deadly Corona Virus disease in the country, but however noted that the project will shortly resume after the country is declared free of the virus pandemic.

Deputy Minister Quamie made it clear that during the construction of the SKD Sports Complex about three and half decades ago, these measures were never taken into consideration and as such the Ministry and the Liberia Football Association, LFA were now under obligation to effect the necessary changes in bringing the Sports Complex to an acceptable international standard.

The Deputy Minister of Sports further said, the improvement and development of sports and sporting facilities in Liberia is a fundamental priority of  this  government, in pursuant of this,    the Senior Management Team headed by Minister D. Zeogar Wilson has put  every mechanism in place to recalibrate and rejuvenate the development and improvement of all sports program  to commensurate with present day sporting reality.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Meanwhile, Minister Quamie has admonished Liberians to take seriously all health protocols being instituted by the Ministry of Health and the National Public Health Institute of Liberia, NPHIL, if the country is to succeed in the fight against the Corona Virus disease that is ravaging the world at an unprecedented speed.

He urged citizens and residents to always wear face shield, nose mats and observe social distancing whenever they are in public places, something he noted were precautionary measures intended to stop the transmission of the virus.
